August 15, 2019:
Construction on ORBT platforms will begin soon! The construction team began site preparation and equipment mobilization this week to break ground at the Westroads Transit Center later this month.
Due to the coordination needed to complete both elements at each site efficiently, the construction process will require flexibility. Here’s what to expect:
- 3 crews will work in tandem on platforms on the north side of Dodge Street from the Westroads Transit Center to downtown, where they will shift to the south side of Douglas and work west. Construction will temporarily close sections of the adjacent travel lanes. Road closures will be shared in advance.
- To expedite construction, the team may be working on as many as 15 stations simultaneously, with anywhere from 6-8 road closures at once.
- Canopies are being manufactured and assembled off-site to reduce road closures. When a site is ready, the platform will be transported to Omaha and craned into place.
- Sidewalk access may be limited due to space constraints and safety concerns, so pedestrians will be encouraged to use alternate routes until construction at each site is completed. Pedestrians will be encouraged to use alternate routes until construction at each site is completed. Curb ramps will not be disturbed, providing access to intersections.
Information coming soon.
